「NATIONAL MARCH AGAINST TRUMP ON SATURDAY」

Set to be the largest demonstration against him, including first term. Will this fix everything? Of course not. But don't you want to push the envelope a little, push his buttons a little, let him know we don't care about his birthday?
If you're American, please find one to attend this Saturday.

「Los Angeles is under federal occupation」

Habeas Corpus is dead there. They're arresting everyone. This is an act of war.

「Trump enacts Military as Police」

https://apnews.com/article/insurrection-act-trump-troops-newsom-military-national-guard-a842f79e1c0e244039be274a6f266a7a

This is bad. This is REALLY bad. I know everything bad Trump does just kind of turns into a background hum of bad idiocy that makes you want to tune out, but this is an honest to goodness HAPPENING.

QRD
>Ice showed up in a parking lot outside a Home Depot and just formed a wall and stood there for no reason
>Protestors showed up and started shouting "pigs go home"
>Ice began shooting literally hundreds of cans of tear gas at protestors for several hours while doing NOTHING. Not arresting anyone or conducting any operation.
>The most the protestors did was drag some home depot carts into the street to block traffic and stand in front of a bus.
>In response to this the entire Trump admin is using a "invaders on our soil, protect our blood, mass deportations withe military now" rhetoric.
>This entire thing was planned to enable Trump to use the military against states that rebel against his regime
>The LA county police departments, under direction from Mayor, County and Governor, have not been assisting ICE and doing basic crowd control but have been pointedly not assisting ICE or providing them protection.

「Trans women gets 15 years for being assaulted in a deli and killing her assailan」

https://nypost.com/2025/05/29/us-news/pure-evil-transgender-woman-who-viciously-stabbed-postal-worker-to-death-in-nyc-deli-sentenced-to-15-years/

This is literally genocidal rhetoric, this is the point we are it American discourse. A trans women gets called slurs and her assailant attempts to beat her to death in public over a minor misunderstanding. The media? They do a full hit piece and demand the maximum sentence. The normal sentencing for a murder in self defense? 5-8 years.

>After the sentencing, Hodges’ furious family members began chanting “It’s a boy!” and “F–king boy!”inside the courtroom as other supporters wore “Justice for Ray” t-shirts.

This was literally a member of a conservative and homophobic family enacting their idealogy of punishing anyone they consider a faggot suffering the consequences of their own actions by starting an unnecessary violent interaction. As they say: Fuck around and find out.

The judge and society? The maximum charge sentence allowable, misgendering and turning the perpetrator of the assault into a folk hero.

By the way, when a straight man had an almost identical situation: https://nypost.com/2024/03/30/us-news/bodega-clerk-jose-albas-self-defense-was-overkill-nyc-lawyers/ the Post idolized the idea of self defense and criticized the liberal lawyers for seeking manslaughter charges for a deli owner defending themselves from an armed robbery.

The difference (other than minor case details obviously) is that in this case a trans person was involved. Its the only thing that serves to differentiate this case from the sea is violent crime that exists in a city of 22 million people. We live in a time when being transgender is to be a targeted minority, complete with smart campaigns, caricature art depicting us as ugly, harsher penalties for the same crimes etc. Be aware, and be safe. If you are a victim in a situation like this, be mindful that the consequences of self defense will be crucifixion unequal to the crime.

This is NYC, so hopefully she goes to a women's prison.

「Trump loyalists being placed in charge of ICE to accelerate deportations」

They are frustrated with the 'slow' pace of current deportation efforts, with new leaders aiming for a "minimum" of 3,000 deportations a day.
If they average that rate from now until the end of 2028 that would be about 4 million deportations.
1 of every 100 people who reside here, just gone.
But don't worry it's not fascism.

「Canadian politics」

So carney just won, looks like the ndp lost most of their seats, jagmeet lost his riding and has stepped down, greens lost one of the seats but Elisabeth may kept her riding on the gulf islands… ontario lost all its ndp ridings, including some that were ndp for over 20 years…

Some surprises…

The political landscape looks pretty stupid.

「ICE is continuing to escalate. Trump is now deporting American citizens.」

Specifically children with cancer.
They didn't even wait for the birthright citizenship law, just went ahead and did it illegally.
I am worried what these means for other "undesirable" American citizens in addition to all American Hispanics. Not sure what to make of the implications for future illegal policies though.
Discuss.

「How does liberalism work?」

Context: was here back when it was called brainworm rodeo because I was curious about glegle, surprised by the new branding after not using this place for a while.

How exactly does liberalism work compared to other leftist sects? Does it use dialectics? How does liberal theorycrafting (and praxiscrafting for that matter) work?

「How to fix the large uptick in far-right/right wing populism」

Pic related, but also if you were to look at recent polling (especially out of South Korea), you can see a gender divide where younger men seem to be more attracted to far right/right wing populist parties.
While stories as extreme as picrel aren't terribly common, whenever anyone brings this problem up, the answers are almost always censorship or "they need to be raised better."
Maybe that will work with children, but as the polling shows, many adults are like this too, and all censorship will do for them is make them feel even more vindicated.
Thoughts on this?

「Feeling really jaded from politics.」

Like why do people just put up with a system that produces such objectively bad results. We are given such a bad choice of candidates and parties… in America there is the two party system, whats going to happen when it becomes a one party system? Things always get split if theres more.
Its like no one really fucking knows whats going on- in politics, in their community, in their lives, theres a special kind of apathy and ignorance. And some if those people still vote. And thats the only way they will ever engage with politics.

「whats the deal with tankies?」

how come some ppl choose to focus on weird esoteric old ideologies instead of practical solutions to current problems?? i just dont get people talking about mao or stalin or whoever when i can barely afford to eat
