i make a point of saying "queer" instead of "lgbt" nowadays specifically because the acronym has gotten so bogged down with extra letters and identities that it ceases to be really useful.

"lgbt" is still a useful catchall but it doesn't seem to serve its purpose anymore

In college, the LGBT group used to fight constantly about what the name should be, which letters to include etc (this is about a decade ago when LGBT was undergoing its big Tumblr phase and letters were popping up left right and center). They settled their differences by agreeing to call it "Pride". I think Pride is actually a pretty good umbrella name but unfortunately would get demonised by Catholics as promoting sin or some nonsense.

yeah colleges seem to be the ones trying to like enact changes in this space... my old college had an LGBT society that tried to rename itself to the queer society, but it fizzled out cause people didn't want to be associated with a word that could still be used as an attack (kinda like calling themselves the fag society or something).
calling it "Pride" is pretty good, tho the sinful association just gets stronger... and idk, i think of queerness and pride to be two separate things, that just happen to have a lot of overlap. lotta cishet people at pride parades, that kinda thing

it's an interesting puzzle to try and give form and identity to a group of people who are definitionally othered and diverse
