#write a story about emo boys

emo boys in a dark basement somewhere in ohio. one's playing guitar, another's hunched over an old laptop, clicking through some obscure blog. the walls are covered in posters of bands you've never heard of, and everything smells vaguely of incense and blackberry body spray.

"life is pain," one mutters, fiddling with his snakebite piercings.

"yeah," the second agrees, smudging his eyeliner further just for the aesthetic. "what's even the point."

the gangly third one crumples in the corner, miserably mouthing lyrics to brand new’s discography. someone broke the bong earlier and it felt symbolic.

later, they might go to a parking lot and sit on the hood of a beat-up honda civic. maybe smoke a cigarette and swap haunted by alkaline trio remixes. maybe argue about whether joy division was better before or after ian left. no one has the energy to actually say it out loud, though.

everything matters until it doesn't. that’s just how it is.

the snow crunched under the boots of two emo boys, aiden and kayden, as they trudged toward the beat-up snowmobile parked at the edge of the pine forest. it was midwinter, the air sharp with cold, their breaths puffing out in slow, misty sighs. aiden’s black fingerless gloves fumbled with the key while kayden leaned against the seat, his dyed-black bangs dusted with snowflakes.

"you sure this thing even runs?" kayden muttered, trying to sound sarcastic but unable to hide the hint of excitement in his voice.

aiden smirked. "if it doesn’t, guess we’re walking back. and freezing to death. tragic ending for us."

the engine rumbled to life beneath them, sputtering before settling into a steady growl. kayden clung to aiden’s waist instinctively as they lurched forward, speeding past skeletal trees and untouched powder. the wind bit at their cheeks, red and raw, but neither cared. they were alive—breathless, reckless, hearts pounding.

kayden pressed his forehead against aiden’s shoulder. "this is kinda romantic," he shouted over the roar.

aiden laughed, twisting back just enough to meet his eyes. "shut up."

they kept riding—faster, further—until the world blurred into white. a romantic story about emo boys going on a snowmobile together
