ok so basically, in ancient irish mythology certain people believed in this goddess called the cailleach bheuer (pronounced coyluck on account of the accent) who basically was responsible for shaping most of the mountains and geographical features on the entire landmass. she lived on a farm with a bunch of sheep and cattle and whatever, and nearby there was a village full of people. every day she would grab a huge ass boulder and carry it up a nearby mountain and use it to plug a hole where a deadly flood of water would erupt from every day, but the boulder stopped it. anyway one time she was so exhausted from tending to her livestock for the whole day that by the time she carried the boulder up the mountain, she fell asleep next to the hole she had to plug wait actually no she fell asleep on top of her boulder i think so she could like lay in the sun or whatever. but anyway because she didnt plug the hole with the boulder all the water burst out off the mountain and flooded all of the land below and it killed all of her livestock and killed everyone in the village and everyone died. when the cailleach woke up she felt so guilty that she turned into a rock. because of this some gaelic people would look at certain rocks and believed that they were actually the petrified body of the cailleach. also cailleach means old hag
