i mean pokemon TCG was always that way from what I hear though the player base is not sweaty like other games and really enjoys goofy decks built around bad cards with really pretty art which is cool

gen 6 little cup was based because it had all the "problematic" pokemon in it

but what OU ladder addicts dont realize is that because of the stat squish despite having huge usage and win rates they had TONS of counters and even stuff that would be NU in normal mons are still able to l literally match the best mons stat for stat because the stats are so low

so if you ban the top 1/3 of little cup you dont really affect the power level of the meta that much but just make the format itself less versatile because you banned the more verastile mons so you just create a more boring and less exciting meta

theres no question murkrow was seriously strong, even OP

but murkrow had like TWENTY good movesets and tons of counters

i think misdreavous even wasnt even that problematic

I remember people saying that non sweeper teems werent viable but I got to like 1900 with a pure stall recycle team using bronzor and eggcutor sunny day

and stopped because i got bored lol

it was also nice because you could build a team around an uncommon or wierd mon but then you would always have a perfect strong mon from that 1/3 they banned out of the game to round out your team

yea true, but also some pokemon of lower power level could be more competitive because they had really good movesets

it was cool because you could create pokemon with high stats and bad movesets or great movesets and bad stats

now all pokemon have good stats and the only thing that seperates them is abilities / movesets
