truthfully it seems like AI for coding has a few specific purposes and i cant imagine trying to let it run free on a codebase
you can use it to navigate a large code base if you want, e.g. 'where is this operating, what are the implications'
you can probably use it to generate code snippets that are useful
but as soon as you try to let it run free and make a complete useful project its basically dead in the water
never again will a human be able to navigate that code base because it's just that fucked up
and to make it worse, you will reach a point where you can't even have the ai work on it because figuring out what the disastrous codebase does exceeds its context window
its useful for like, asking plain questions about features and documentation and other 'helper' tasks but i dont think its good if you're trying to make production level software

prototyping some scraper bot thing
writing some cheap front end single page webapp

the scraper bot thing had succumb to technical debt zombie shenanigans
the frontend had a lot of bugs
the most confident i felt about integrating it was using it as a documentatioon machine w/ examples
setting up postgres and a ORM was made a lot easier that way
but if it did it itself, it would never figure out what decisions it made or why it made them later on down the road

honestly, if you cant give ai like cutting edge research questions and have it come up with novel solutions, it's not true ai
