I think what it is is that people don't fully understand what "drugs will take over your life" actually means, like they only understand it in an abstract way and don't get the "manipulate your family for drug money, abuse the people around you, scam and lie just to get your next hit" aspect of things, not that I think these people should be fully demonized either, but like there is a level of detached callousness you have to adopt

I remember one of my friends looking sidewise at me after they said "in Switzerland, they just put drug abusers in clinics and hand them needles to do drugs in private" and I told them that this is a better alternative to them doing it in front of their kids
