There's nothing wrong with just trying it and seeing if it's okay with you. Hrt does work on a bit of a longer timescale than a few months though.

The letter warned institutions that receive federal funding against providing gender affirming care. Planned Parenthood Arizona is the only branch of the organization reported to have paused care as a result.

I don't think it's unnecessarily paranoid, especially when it can cause your in-person life to bleed into your online life. I've seen this happen before where an acquaintance became convinced that they went to high school with the owner of some leddit account they found. There are other disadvantages of requiring registration too like seniority becoming a factor in discussion.
