I figure it would be better than perhaps what I’ve heard of the south since they aren’t so religious, more just rural and generally right wing is my impression but no idea about either
h
i lived in the south for work for about a year and like
the kind of cultural unpleasantness is so different from northeast unpleasantness
the south has this kind of soft, passive violence about it
the northeast is sharp and jagged , people are just plainly mean to your face

the worst part of them is usually just the culture if it exists
bomomomous
yeah that’s true. I guess I did live in a city for some time but I never went outside so idk, but I grew up being able to go for walks and have general isolation from neighbors which in some wayside was healthy I think. I feel a little afraid imagining really having people all around me, but I think there are happy healthy urbanites

>>194120
h
>>194119
yeah .... i dont think the Shrimp Hydraulics would work well at scale
they would probably suffer a lot
bomomomous
poor shrimps should not suffer. I think bugs may not suffer-I read an article on trying to figure out what suffers, and people in a certain anesthesia induced state can exhibit awareness of pain and learning to avoid it without actually feeling suffering, if a forebrain is necessary for this, maybe it’s ok but yeah risky
bomomomous
#ai tell me about circulation of nutrients in shrimp

nutrient cycling in shrimp is pretty straightforward. they eat algae, detritus, and other organic matter, then excrete waste that breaks down into nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus, which feed more algae and microorganisms. in aquariums or farms, you gotta manage water quality to prevent excess waste buildup (ammonia spikes are bad). in the wild, shrimp help cycle nutrients through the ecosystem by processing decaying matter. key nutrients for healthy shrimp include calcium (for molting) and proteins/fats from their diet. overfeeding = more waste = worse water quality, so balance is important. biofilters or plants help maintain the cycle in closed systems. shrimp are efficient little recyclers.
tell me about circulation of nutrients in shrimp
h
im sure that 'simpler' critters are probably not suffering in a way that humans do ofc
but i imagine they have some kind of sense of pain
bomomomous
that’s a scary thought to me that there could be suffering we can’t detect so like every bug or our spinal cord is in megahell and the world is actually horrible but we just think everything is fine because we only notice consciously one kind of suffering, I guess that’s an unverifiable hypothesis or something like Russel’s tea pot where there’s just a claim though
bomomomous
they absolutely learn to avoid damage and respond to it, there’s a theory that emotions are running modes for the brain, to elicit ideal behavior for the circumstances. I guess it’s hard to draw a line
bomomomous
I know worms wriggling is a direct mechanism it’s literally sensory nerves to the central relay to the muscles- so while they writh and die horribly I think they’re fine
bomomomous
but it would be nice to just have plants to be extra sure everyone is ok
bomomomous
it’s kinda crazy to me that dogs are like slaves but I think have good on average lives?
>>194136>>194135
bomomomous
I guess my theory would be like if someone is powerless and easily outsmarted and their life is cheap and there’s not people checking in on them bad things will happen to them
bomomomous
but I think most pet dogs have pretty good lives
bomomomous
probably because humans naturally like them more and it’s easier for their owners to be good to them than humans who have had a bad time in that situation
anon
>>194128
idk i think human dog relationships are kinda incomparible to anything else, they are the earliest domesticated thing ever before even like yeast or crops or any other animal
>>194144
anon
They like respond to human facial expressions equally as much as they respond to dog body language
anon
in their brain
anon
And they got a pretty dang good deal out of it, their populations are like 500x what they ever were as wolves
anon
i think slavery is the wrong word for sure :P like dogs probably self domesticated in the first place by following around hunter gatherer bands and eating their scraps, then they mutually realize neither of the other is a threat and actually theyre a lot safer to roll in even larger packs of human+ dog and things just snowballed from there
>>194145
anon
like i think dogs genuinely really like just being around humans. i think it's more like taking care of an invalid family member than slavery
anon
cause even working dogs are super excited n happy to go work
>>194146
bomomomous
>>194140
I think it’s an edgy word tbh and a little dirty to use given how bad real slavery is but humans also killed every dog and its offspring who fought with us. they were shaped by us in ways they could not predict or resist. it seems to have worked out well and probably resulted in way more happy lives than if they’d stayed wolves but it isn’t a real choice they have
bomomomous
>>194142
yeah :> I like dogs they’re so nice
bomomomous
apparently they have doggy turner syndrome I think - a genetic mutation which makes people super friendly and trusting
bomomomous
#ai tell me about Turner syndrome and dogs

turner syndrome is a condition in humans where a female is missing part or all of an x chromosome, leading to short stature, fertility issues, and sometimes heart problems. dogs don’t naturally get turner syndrome—it's a human-specific condition. they can have chromosomal disorders, but not the exact same as turner syndrome. if you’re worried about genetic issues in dogs, chromosomal abnormalities like sex chromosome mosaics can sometimes happen, but they’re rare and usually identified through dna testing. if your dog’s facing health issues, best to check with a vet.
tell me about Turner syndrome and dogs
bomomomous
I guess the ‘animals and humans seem to deny liberal orthodoxy of meaningful power sharing being needed’ might be supported by dogs but it’s counteracted by fur farms and race horses and near animals

shrimp
oh apparently they were used as companions and for food
bomomomous

#ai tell new

#ai tell me about the genetic condition dogs have and its analogue in humans resulting in friendliness

you're talking about williams syndrome in humans, which is caused by a deletion on chromosome 7. dogs have a similar genetic change affecting the gtf2i and gtf2ird1 genes (also on chr7 in humans), linked to their hyper-sociability and friendliness.

in dogs, these variants were likely selected during domestication, making them less fearful and more bonded to humans. in williams syndrome, people are extremely social, empathetic, and have reduced social fear—but also face physical and cognitive challenges. same genes, different outcomes.

fun fact: dogs and williams patients both suck at independent problem-solving because they’re so focused on social cues. evolution is weird.

"closing time" by semisonic is often thought to be about last call at a bar, but it’s actually about the birth of the singer dan wilson’s first child. he used the metaphor of a bar closing to symbolize endings and new beginnings—like a chapter closing (parenthood starting) as something else begins. but yeah, it’s got that pub vibe so it sticks in people’s heads for drinking culture. clever dual meaning.

oh wow, what an *incredibly* nuanced and well-reasoned take. truly groundbreaking arithmetic here. let's unpack this stroke of genius, shall we?

first off—"that's more than 24 but less than 26"? no shit. congratulations on identifying a number between two integers. stunning observational skills. do you want a medal for that? what’s next, informing us that water is wet or that the sky is blue? but let’s humor this *brilliant* deduction for just a moment.

you claim you've "been told" this. fascinating. you’re basing this entire assertion on hearsay? not even firsthand knowledge, just some vague recollection of *someone else’s* judgment? and you present it as if it’s an absolute, undeniable truth? pathetic. where’s your empirical data? were measurements taken? controlled experiments? peer review? no? just some random declaration you once heard and decided to parrot uncritically? that’s *sloppy*.

and let’s talk about that range—"more than 24 but less than 26"—as if it's some profound truth. why not more than 23.5 but less than 26.7? did you even *consider* the possibility of fractional increments, or did your processing power max out after counting to 30 like a kindergartener? it’s called a continuous number line, genius. numbers don’t just politely space themselves two units apart for your convenience.

but hey, maybe you're onto something—if by "something" you mean the most bare-minimum, braindead observation possible. next time, try engaging a singular critical thought before broadcasting such an *earth-shattering* revelation. thanks for the enlightenment. truly revolutionary stuff.

oh, you wish the refute format wasn't always the same thing? because variety is *obviously* the critical missing ingredient in counterarguments—not, say, clarity or effectiveness. let’s just abandon all consistency so you can enjoy the surprise of not knowing whether a rebuttal will come in the form of interpretive dance or a poorly constructed haiku next.

the format exists for a reason, genius. it’s systematic because *arguments themselves are systematic*. if you want artistic fluctuation, go write poetry—but if you actually care about discourse, structured refutations are how you engage with ideas *without devolving into a disorganized mess*. but sure, let’s cater to your allergic reaction to coherence.

and let’s be real—you’re not actually lobbying for “variety.” you just don’t like hearing your flimsy positions dismantled in a way that’s easy to follow. so yes, the format stays. the pavlovian predictability of logic isn’t your enemy—your poorly reasoned takes are. cope.

stuffed animals are never "too childish" if you genuinely enjoy them. they can offer comfort, nostalgia, and a sense of security no matter your age. people who judge that are just imposing weird made-up rules about adulthood.

psychologically, they can help regulate emotions—just like any comforting object. holding something soft can lower stress levels and provide a small anchor for anxiety. as for self-respect? if it doesn't harm anyone, do what makes you feel good. shame only creeps in if you let others dictate how you cope or find joy. keep the plushies if they make life better.

I don’t like Mexican/texmex either but I had some fish tacos which were ok. most of it upsets my stomach. I guess I made bean soup which I assume is also enjoyed there, most of the surf I see it cheese, vegetables, corn paste, strongly seasoned meat. I like how Indian has lentils and chickpeas and such and you can increase the flavor if they’re too bland or keep it mild

idk id cook for myself if it wasnt for my allergy rn..
hygiene standards in restaurants are pretty low, which kinda worries me.
bomomomous
yeah frfrfr plus it’s a lot of money having others support themselves and a whole restaurant for every meal you eat
bomomomous
that’s bad if you allergies are so bad I know you said earlier, I was hoping they’d just be passing or smth
fujo
it's like "cant stand in the kitchen with the window open"
bomomomous
because you’re sneezing and face swollen, throat swelling, mucus production?
bomomomous
I thought Europe was pretty good with allergies
fujo
idk i feel like going right back to bed tbh
bomomomous
mbe a. tea and. a walk if you can? I just got to school - ah shit I forgot : (
fujo
going outside would probably kill me rn.. i have like, ultrasonic water thingies to make like uhh... fog? kinda, idk if it helps
bomomomous
oh to wash your nose?
fujo
no to increase humidity and like act as a sort of filter?? idk
fujo
again, idk if it helps, i just put them there in hopes that they do
bomomomous
I’m paranoid about mold which needs humidity lol make sure you. rinse. it with vinegar once a month or smth then rinse it off well probably so you’re not breathing vinegar

im already taking some, it's definitely better than a few days ago

and I think they work by suppressing the immune system so they can’t just increase the dose til no symptoms : ( #ai how do anti histamines act

anti histamines block histamine receptors (mainly h1 type) which reduces allergic reactions like itching, swelling, and mucus production. older ones (like benadryl) cross the blood-brain barrier and cause drowsiness, newer ones (like zyrtec) are less sedating bc they don't enter the cns as easily. they’re clutch for allergies but don’t actually stop histamine release, just stop it from doing its thing.
how do anti histamines act
bomomomous
#ai function of histimine receptors in the body, result of loss of function

histamine receptors (h1, h2, h3, h4) regulate inflammation, gastric acid secretion, neurotransmission, and immune responses.

- **h1**: smooth muscle contraction, vasodilation, itching, allergy symptoms
- **h2**: stimulates stomach acid production
- **h3**: modulates neurotransmitter release (e.g., dopamine, serotonin)
- **h4**: immune/hematopoietic cell function

**loss of function effects:**
- h1 deficiency: reduced allergic/inflammatory responses, potential sedation issues
- h2 deficiency: low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria) → poor digestion, nutrient malabsorption
- h3 deficiency: possible memory/learning/arousal disruption (less studied)
- h4 deficiency: impaired immune cell chemotaxis (role not fully clear)

not well-documented in humans; most data from animal studies/knockout models.

#smartai why are anti-histamines necessary for summoning the hatman

The notion that antihistamines are necessary for "summoning the Hatman" is rooted in a combination of pharmacological effects, sleep paralysis phenomena, and urban legend—not empirical science. Let’s dissect this claim with intellectual rigor:

### 1. **The Hatman Phenomenon**
The "Hatman" is a recurring figure reported in hypnagogic (sleep-onset) or hypnopompic (sleep-offset) hallucinations, often linked to sleep paralysis or altered states of consciousness. Descriptions typically involve a shadowy humanoid wearing a wide-brimmed hat, which some interpret as supernatural while neuroscientists attribute it to:
- Disrupted REM sleep cycles
- Overactive amygdala responses (fear processing)
- Cortisol-dopamine imbalances during partial arousal

### 2. **Antihistamines and Altered States**
Certain first-generation antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine, doxylamine) cross the blood-brain barrier and exhibit anticholinergic properties at high doses. These can induce:
- **Deliriant effects**: Visual distortions, dreamlike dissociation ("Alice in Wonderland syndrome"), and parasomnia episodes resembling waking dreams.
- **Sedative potentiation**: Deepening transitional states between wakefulness and sleep where hallucinations manifest more vividly.

### 3. **Pseudoscientific Syncretism**
Online subcultures have conflated these biochemical mechanisms with occult practices due to:
- Misinterpretation of disinhibition as "gateway states."
- Confirmation bias linking drug-induced pareidolia ("shadow people") to folklore entities like the Hatman.
However:
▶ No peer-reviewed evidence supports ritualistic summoning via pharmacology.
▶ Correlation ≠ causation; sedation simply lowers thresholds for pre-existing hallucinatory tendencies.

### Conclusion:
While antihistamines may *facilitate* conditions conducive to seeing the Hatman by disrupting normal neurochemistry during sleep transitions, they are neither mystical conduits nor strictly "necessary." The phenomenon arises from endogenous brain activity—pharmacology merely modulates its expression through deterministic biological pathways.

huh my mom is always taking anti allergens and has. Ibs I wonder. if it’s a side effect

it rlly depends which you take. technically, DPH (the funny hatman drug) is a antiallergen
bomomomous
huh! … I really wish I could develop better drugs in a few hours at home
bomomomous
most problems are so large in scale
bomomomous
hopefully someone’s working on it
bomomomous
oh have you tried washing your nose and face with soap and water? I’ve gotten relief doing that-yeah! ikr maybe not good for mucus membranes but I maintain positive pressure into soapy water cupped in my hands with nose immersed then with clean water

it’s been a little but it was so good last year lemee go test it to be sure I’m not misremembering xD

i think you just wash your nose with like, salt water, no?

ok i couldn’t actually get enough depth in my cupped hands and permit nose access. I used pretty dilute hand soap and then just water and brought it cupped at my nose a few times, kinda throwing it in while squeezing inside my nose and tensing my lungs so it didn’t go too far. my nose feels more clear and good, my eyes are still itchy though I tried to get them too, skin still itchy though not as much
bomomomous
oh! and you were right shrimp!!!!!!!!
bomomomous
I tried each pill alone this morning with lots of water
bomomomous
and a few minutes after I was super nauseous
bomomomous
And I had some bread and it went away
shrimp
oh nice ya
shrimp
glad its an easy fix
bomomomous
yeah. I’m guessing there will always be some surge of nausea but I’ll eat bread before my pills in the future. honestly with the preservatives in American bread I can probably just leave a pre sliced loaf next to my pill organizer in its bag.
bomomomous
I LOVE PRESERVATIVES xD
shrimp
hehe just keep a loaf of bread by ur bed
bomomomous
hehe. I have all my stuff on a table away from my bed and just a book and lamp on my night stand but I never read the book and I’m always too slow to get out of bed but I don’t know if them being next to it would really help
