I also have a book on Mongolian history that I didn't realize was written by a Civil War veteran until I started reading, and it was like bizarrely racist but like in a progressive sort of way, where it basically says like "racism is dumb because the designation of a mongoloid race doesn't make sense", so you have this guy who has zero issue saying slurs but he is very clearly in favor of like integration and reconstruction and such, it makes it sort of interesting to read just to get his perspective
