I also really recommend Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber, he was an anthropologist who covered philosophy as well n stuff

very cool guy, he also wrote a well known book on the entire history of debt, but BS jobs has come to be his biggest legacy as it puts into words how a large portion of jobs don't need to exist or are just there to create an illusion or such of things

wow i thought it was older but 2018, he did a survey of people asking if they believed their job needed to exist or if it offered any good to the world and such and 30%+ of respondents fit into having jobs that don't have a reason to exist
like for example, one would be a job where they use you for appearances or to be an executive's guys who just suck up to him, jobs that have a position where they make you come in for 8 hours but you get 30 minutes of work and aren't allowed to do anything but sit there

it talks a lot about how the people who have a job but absolutely nothing to do can be really suffering even though many people would view it as a dream to sit around like that, instead they feel like they're wasting away and hurt a lot about not being of any use; plus boredom like that sucks hard

i got recommended a video one time that had like 5 views of a guy talking about his job for a railway company or service and having been hired but given absolutely nothing for days on end
i was glad to talk a bit in comments and recommend the book as a lot of people have the experience but suffer not knowing it's so common, and dont mention it as most people will just respond as if you're needlessly complaining and lucky, sigh
